Well that's odd. So, do 'watches from serial production' mean that they just submitted regular movements plucked off the line? I looked up eterna's entries on the observatory chronometer database, and the results are ok.

Certainly not in the top 3 as many of omega's were, but good enough to achieve bulletins. But then, if they could claim such a thing, why not do so? Why call them 'potential observatory chronometers'? Were there costs associated with acquiring such certification? I'm guessing that I may be the only one interested in this. I'm guessing that I may be the only one interested in this. This 1950 Eternamatic belonged to my father-in-law. It was damaged when he jumped into the Russian River to pull out his 8 year old son who fell in. That was about 54 years ago.

The watch was so rusted that a skilled watch repair person declined my offer to restore it. I have intermittently tinkered with it for a year. I took it completely apart and soaked the rusted movement parts in Black Tea. That seemed to do a good job cleaning up the rust. I then passed the parts thru some solvents before reassembly. Today, i got the escapement to finally come back to life.

It was pretty cool to see the little balance wheel keep moving and the wheels spinning. The rest of the repair should be easier, but may take a while to finish as i am missing some small parts to finishe the date wheel assembly.
